Many machine parts, like gears, axles, fasteners etc., have circular symmetry and round bars are therefore an appropriate starting format. Hence, more or less all grades in our engineering-steel programme are available as rounds. The base execution for rounds is hot-rolled or forged. The bar surface is then oxidised and some smaller, shallow surface defects can occur. Such are avoided if bright bars with machined surface are used as starting material. Furthermore, tolerances are improved.
In the engineering industry, machining can represent a significant expense. For this reason, many grades in our round-bar programme are available as so-called M-Steel with improved machinability.
