Hot-rolled flat products with thickness up to 12 mm and which are coiled during manufacture constitute a very common format for stainless steel and find broad application in process industries and as starting material for further processing to tube. Hot-finished sheet which has been annealed and pickled has a characteristic surface finish designated 1D. Via pattern rolling, it is possible to generate a surface with raised and depressed features, which apart from being decorative to some degree also confers stiffness. A typical example is so-called tear-plate.
