We stocks a programme of bars which have been cold-finished by either drawing or grinding. Such have finer surfaces and better tolerances and straightness than hot-rolled bars. Furthermore, cold-drawn bars have higher strength than the same steel in hot-rolled execution. Prior to cold drawing, the surface of the hot-rolled bar is shot-blasted which removes oxide but does not eliminate smaller hot-rolling defects.
The manufacture of ground bars involves first peeling, followed by grinding in a so-called centre-less machine. The tolerance, ovality and straightness are better than for cold-drawn bar. In addition, the surface is completely defect-free with a fine finish.
